Rabun County School Honorable Mention for Green Ribbon Award
A Rabun County school is honored as being an energy efficient school.
Rabun County Elementary School was an honorable mention for the Georgia Green Ribbon School, and received a commendation from Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle on the floor of the Senate last week.
Kent Woerner went down to the Capitol to receive the award.
“What they consider is the fact that we use energy efficient heaters, low flush toilets, things like that,” said Woerner. “They like the fact that we have a greenhouse on our campus, and then of course our recycling.”
Rabun County School Superintendent Matt Arthur said that it was a lengthy process to apply, but was worth it.
“It was worthwhile going back and doing it to show this community that we are green,” said Arthur. “Everything we are building is a green school. The new school is going to be 30% more efficient than the elementary school just because of new technology that is out there.”
Georgia’s Green Ribbon School, Ford Elementary, will compete for the national distinction of being a Green Ribbon School.
