Rabun County Road Department continues delayed projects

RABUN COUNTY — After “a long wet winter” the Rabun County Road Department is back to doing what they do best, ensuring that Rabun-ians have save roadways to travel on.

According to Scott Provance, Director of the Rabun County Road Department, projects are back on the right track and are resuming after a seasonal delay.

He said work on Sandy Ford Road has started up once again and the department is back to making progress by continuing to clear and widen two miles of the roadway.

Additionally, Provance said recently the department finished setting up the subgrade for the new Persimmon Fire Department.

“After a long wet winter we are back to the clearing and widening two miles of Sandy Ford Road,” Provance said. “We have also just finished setting up the subgrade for the new Persimmon Fire Department.”

Among paving concerns brought about by citizens, Provance said the delay was due to an asphalt plant in Rabun Gap which was recently bought. The plant he said, is in the process of making major upgrades. Though, he hopes to get hot asphalt on the ground within a months time or less.

“As of right now, the asphalt plant in Rabun Gap was bought by another company and they are doing some major upgrades and overhauling the plant,” Provance said. “We are hoping that they are up and running in the next few weeks so we can start getting some hot asphalt.”

He said the department is also continuing the usual motor grading and graveling roads, asphalt patching, ditching and replacing culverts.
