Rabun County 911 Center Urges Residents to Prepare for Power Outages, Bad Roads Ahead of Winter Weather

From the Rabun County 911 Center: This weekend’s upcoming weather has the potential to be a significant winter event.
1. Make preparations now such as having enough medication and nonperishable food to last at least five days.
2. If you have medical problems that require electricity such as oxygen concentrators, suction units, etc., make alternative plans. Have a working flashlight with extra batteries, a weather radio, and extra power banks for cellphones.
3. Make a list of your utility companies and their phone numbers in case of power outages. Do not call 911 to report your power out unless a dangerous condition exists.
4. Never go around, drive over, or underneath downed powerlines. Always treat them as if they are still energized.
5. If you use a portable generator, make sure it is in a well-ventilated location and a safe distance from the structure.
6. Please do not call 911 to check weather or road conditions.
7. Stay home and off the roads unless absolutely necessary.
