Rabun Co. Rec staying Active

There are several activities going on at the Rabun County Recreation Department, says Athletic Director Adam Dixon.  “Fall is a great time for us, a very busy time.  Football games are right around the corner.  Football and cheer practices have been going on for a few weeks now and it has been great weather, we’ve been lucky so far.  Cross country meets start this coming Saturday down in Athens and cross country is a pretty new sport for our rec department.  Coach Ed Eidson and his help do a great job with those kids and they have been out here running and practicing.  We actually are going to be hosting a cross country event this year over at the high school.  They have their new course and I think it has been probably 20 years since we have been able to host cross country, so we are super excited about that.  We host 3 rec football Saturdays this year and we have 6 teams, so our numbers are up.  Our youth tennis league is wrapping up and Coach Bryan Getty does a great job with those guys.  They play their matches over at the high school.  They had an awesome season.  We’re happy to have new programs that are going so well but we couldn’t do it without the volunteers and the coaches that we have.  Of course, the kids make it fun but the adults and the volunteers make it happen.  They put in lots of time for no pay and we can’t thank those guys enough for what they do for our programs.  Believe it or not, registration for basketball is already open and we are hoping to have good numbers there.  We have online registration available this time.”  The Rabun County Rec is committed to offering activities that teach fundamentals, encourage good sportsmanship, and enhance the quality of life for the citizens of the county.  The Rabun County Rec is located at 400 Rabun Park Drive in Tiger.  For more information, visit https://rabuncounty.ga.gov/recreation or https://www.facebook.com/RabunCountyRecreationDepartment/.
