Rabun Co. Rec recognized as GRPA District 7 Agency of the Year
The Rabun County Recreation Department was recently recognized as the Georgia Recreation and Park Association’s (GRPA) District 7 Agency of the Year for a population of 20,000 and under at the District 7 Awards Banquet, says Rabun County Recreation Director Roy Quilliams. “Oh, it was exciting. Each year you can nominate your agency and other categories also for an award. I nominated us for Agency of the Year in District 7 and we were awarded that. The criteria is basically, you tell about your park, how many acres you’ve got, how many employees you’ve got, your budget, and then outstanding programs offered or accomplishments. Those three items that, I guess, got us the award was us offering volleyball for the first time last year, us extending our trail system a couple of miles and it now connects to the high school trail, which is a huge advantage for not only our cross country team but anybody wanting to come walk in the park, and the bigger item right now is the ten court pickleball complex that the Pickleball Club is building down here on our premises.” The Rabun Pickleball Club was also recognized as the Georgia Recreation and Park Association’s District 7 Volunteer of the Year.
