Progress in the Making for Rabun’s Water System

In Tuesday’s Clayton City Council meeting a huge step was taken in moving things forward with Rabun County’s water system…

“I make a motion that we accept the offer as written, bared having a negotiated rate for selling water at the North Loop, and Clayton-Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority will pay for the new meter that goes in there.”

Council member Jordan Greene made the motion.Roy Quilliams who seconded the motion, feels it’s a fair offer…

“Oh I do, I voted for it because I did think it was a fair offer, and moving forward is the whole goal. You know, I’ve always been for, and still am for consolidation, and I think this is a step in the right direction.”

The motion did pass with a 3 to 2 vote, Council members Fortson and Chisholm were against the offer. With the City of Clayton’s approval of the Water and Sewer Authority’s offer to buy out the North Loop lease, Water and Sewer Chairman Sam Beck sees real progress…

“I think it’s progress for our community, I am glad that the City Council has approved this. I know this is something we’ve been working on for a number of years, and I can see progress happening, and like I said, I think everything is moving forward.”

Beck doesn’t feel the stipulation the City added asking the Authority to pay for the meter will be a problem…

“At this point, I haven’t gotten the response back, so I haven’t had time to look at all that, the fine print on it, but if it’s anything with in reason, I can’t see why there would be an issue.”

The water and sewer Authority will discuss the issue in their next meeting.
