Plans for Animal Shelter to Have New Leadership

A new group speaks about their plans operate the animal shelter in Rabun County.

The non-profit group Rabun Paws 4 Life, Incorporated, spoke at Tuesday night’s meeting of the Rabun County Commission about their vision for operating an animal shelter.

Rabun Paws 4 Life CEO Shannon Conrad says they have crafted a bare bones budget of around $240,000. In order to make that budget work in the current building, Conrad asked the county take over the payments on the facility.

She said that if the county provides them with assistant getting started, in six months, Rabun Paws 4 Life expects to have a surplus of donations, allowing for a reduction of approximately $125,000 in county assistance to run animal control next fiscal year.

“We would be able to present what animal control’s salary is, their portion of utilities, what their medication costs is, and request just that amount.”

Conrad presented multiple fundraising ideas.
