Plane Crash in Oconee County, S.C.
Earlier today, Oconee County 911 dispatch received a call around 2:29pm regarding reports of a crash of a small plane at 170 Duck Pond Road. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, Oconee County Emergency Services, Fire and Rescue units and paramedics from Oconee Memorial Hospital were dispatched. The first fire units arrived on the scene around 2:36pm.
When officers and officials arrived on scene, a small 2 seat plane was discovered down an embankment in a wooded area behind Just Aircraft, which is located at the Duck Pond address. Rescuers and officers extracted two individuals, a man and a woman, from the airplane. Both patients suffered injuries but were alert and talking with officials on scene. Two EMS helicopters, Life Line from AnMed and MedTrans for Greenville Memorial Hospital, transported one person each from the scene.
According to Charlie King, Fire Chief of Oconee County, it is believed that the plane was coming in for a landing and clipped some trees on its approach and crashed in the wooded area. The area has been secured and the Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and is headed to the scene. The Highway Patrol is assisting with traffic control at this time.
