Parents arrested on drug charges, child placed in custody of RCFCS

CLAYTON — After a slew of anonymous calls informing the Division of Family and Children Services (DFACS) that a residence where a child lived had a heavy amount of persons with drugs frequenting the home, local law enforcement stepped in and arrested the negligent parents.

Authorities from the Clayton Police Department responded to a call received from DFACS where they were requested to offer assistance regarding a welfare check at the address of 50 Jaguar Lane in Clayton.

According to Rhonda Bruce, DFACS, several complaints were noted which entailed the useage of drugs was present where the child resided.

Upon arrival at the residence of the requested welfare check, Angela Marie Freeman, 30, answered the door which deputies entered and confronted her about the drug useage to which she admitted to, but told authorities there were no illegal substances nearby.

After searching the residence, a zipper bag which contained several needles and a glass pipe with a white substance in it was recovered. Along with it deputies also recovered two weighing scales and Diazepam 10mg.

Two more bags with varying amounts of methamphetamine were also found — one bag located in a dresser drawer, the other underneath a couch cushion.

Aaron Gunn, 26, Freeman’s live-in partner was present during the raid along with his mother Norma Jene Gunn, 44, of Walhalla, South Carolina – all of who denied ownership of the drugs and paraphernalia.

Before deputies made the arrests, Gunn (44) pulled a glass smoking device out of her bra and told law enforcement that her son had thrown it to her and told her to hide it.

Freeman has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance and possession or use of drug-related objects.

Gunn (26) and Gunn (44) are both charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession or use of drug-related objects.

The child in the residence was taken into custody of the Rabun County Family and Children Services (RCFCS).
