Opening Day of Tax Season announced by IRS

Tax season opens on Monday, January 27, 2020, announces the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).  Every year, taxpayers have questions about early filing; however, the IRS notes that despite many software companies and tax professionals who accept tax returns before opening day, this doesn’t mean that your tax return will be filed early, those software companies and tax professionals will submit returns when the IRS systems open.  Still, the fastest way to receive a refund is to file your tax returns electronically and chose direct deposit. The IRS expects to process more than 150 million individual tax returns, with most of the returns filed before the April due date. Taxpayers can get free help preparing and filing taxes through the IRS website’s Free File tool, which can be found at www.irs.gov/filing.  Additionally, IRS tax help is available 24 hours a day on IRS.gov, where people can find answers to tax questions and resolve tax issues online.  The due date for 2019 federal income tax returns is April 15, 2020, for most individual taxpayers.
