Officials advise best/worst travel days for Thanksgiving holiday

According to reports, more than half the population in Rabun County will be traveling out of county for Thanksgiving and travel safety officials want you to be informed of the best/worst times to embark on your holiday plans.

This 2018 holiday weekend will see the highest Thanksgiving travel volume in more than a dozen years (since 2005), with 2.5 million more people taking to the nation’s roads, skies, rails and waterways compared with last year.

Cooper says lots of people will be traveling or Thanksgiving this year.

“We are expecting 50 million people to travel nationwide this holiday,” she said. “That’s more than we have seen in about a dozen years.”

Cooper said most Georgians will be traveling by car.

She also commented on what the best days to travel are.

“The best days to travel will be on Thanksgiving day or the Friday, Saturday after Thanksgiving,” she said.

Cooper said the worst travel days and times will be in the afternoon hours on Tuesday.
