Northeast Region wins Georgia Partnership for Transportation Quality Preconstruction Design Award

This week, staff at Georgia DOT’s District One office took home the award for a safety project completed last year in Hall County.  The project to construct the reduced conflict U-Turn (RCUT) on State Route 53 at McEver Road was designed and managed by the district office.  The project also garnered support from the City of Gainesville and the Gainesville Police Department. This intersection experienced 63 angle crashes during a five year period resulting in over $16 million in crash cost to Georgians. Since the improvements were made, there have been zero crashes, resulting in a 100 percent reduction in crashes.  This project was completed by a quick response project which cost $74,938.00 and represents a 22,000 percent return on investment. The award was presented at the 25th Annual Transportation Summit hosted by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Georgia in Athens on Tuesday, November 12, 2019.
