A natural attraction in Macon County, North Carolina re-opens after being closed for repairs since April.

The Dry Falls area between Franklin and Highlands officially re-opened to the public Saturday after undergoing a $466,000 rehabilitation project to make it safer.

Nantahala Forest Service District Ranger Mike Wilkins says the 580 foot access trail to the falls has been improved.

One unique feature at Dry Falls allows visitors to walk behind the falls. As part of the project, a level gravel walkway was built under the falls.

The Dry Falls access area was built in the 1930s and can draw hundreds of visitors in a single weekend.
