New Work Detail to Come to County

A work detail is scheduled to be re-instated in the county  in the new year.

After the Whitworth Detention Center in Hart County announced it was changing to an all female facility, Rabun County will now be contracting with a women’s prison work detail, but one from Habersham County instead of Hart, as County Administrator Jim Bleckley explained.

“The Lee Arrendale State Prison is going to start doing the inmate details for Rabun County and two or three other locations,” said Bleckley. “There’s going to be about five details coming out of that prison.”

Bleckley said that not much will change, other than it will be a women’s detail instead of a men’s work detail.

“They’ll continue doing the same work that they’ve been doing with 8-12 inmates per day, 4 days a week, and we should continue on the same way we have been in the past which has been a very good deal for the county.”

One other positive thing about the change, Bleckley said, is the fact that Lee Arrendale is much closer to Rabun County than Whitworth.
