Multiple Prescribed Fire Operations across Chattahoochee National Forest

Today, March 21, 2023, multiple prescribed fire operations will occur on two burn units located across two Ranger Districts in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Fire managers will use low-intensity fire to remove hazardous fuels such as leaf litter, dead vegetation, and debris, to improve wildlife habitat.  The Blue Ridge Ranger District will apply prescribed fire operations to the 1,628-acre Padena prescribed burn unit located approximately 5 miles SE of Blue Ridge, Ga. in Fannin County in the Padena area.  The Conasauga Ranger District will apply prescribed fire operations at the 75-acre Rocky Flats prescribed burn unit located approximately 3 miles NE of Crandall, GA in Murray County. The prescribed fire project is between Mill Creek and FS Road 630. The purpose of today’s project is to prepare fire breaks for a larger burn unit planned in the Rocky Flats area.  Find more info about how the Forest Service in Georgia manages the land with prescribed fire, and discover ways to stay in-the-know with all our planned burn projects at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/conf/fire.
