More than half the county without power, Winter Storm Warning still in effect

The heavy, wet, mushy snow has caused quite a commotion in Rabun County as more than half of the area remains without power as of Sunday night.

According to Georgia Power’s outage map, last updated at 7 p.m., nearly 9,000 consumers of Georgia Power have been without power since Saturday evening.

Representatives from GA Power have released a statement apologizing for the delay in restoration time but urges patience as ground crews are working around the clock to remedy the situation.

According to the latest weather projection from the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning is still in effect until late Monday afternoon.

Although, temperatures will reach up to the mid-forties according to Sky 96.3 meteorologist John Wetherbee which will allow any remaining snow to melt before the temperature drops back down to the low-twenties Monday night.

Local Rabun County EMA said road conditions are driveable, but there are many downed trees as well as snow banks that could still be hazardous.

If you have to travel, make sure to allow extra time to reach your destination safely and bring a vehicle emergency kit with you for extra caution.
