More Questions, Uncertainty on Dispatch Fees

More questions are being asked surrounding possible dispatch fees imposed on municipalities in Rabun County.

At the Clayton City Council’s meeting on Tuesday, one citizen had this to say.

“I was just concerned about the 911 dispatch calls because I already pay county taxes and I pay city taxes, and now they are saying they are going to charge the city more money.”

As far as what the city of Clayton presently knows about the situation, City Attorney Mitch Baker said it is difficult speculate on what would be asked for by the county, as Clayton has not yet received a letter from Rabun County Attorney Allyn Stockton and one may never come.

” I did have a short conversation with Mr. Stockton, he was letting me know that a letter would be coming, of course I have not received one, nor has the city and I’m hearing that we may not get one,” said Baker. “His explanation to me was that the only thing the county was interested in was in dispatch services concerning the police department.”

Earlier this week, Rabun County Administrator Jim Bleckley clarified statements made by Rabun County Commission Chairman Butch Darnell last week.
