More Details on GSP Cocaine Bust
More details are available regarding the cocaine seized during a traffic stop on Halloween night.
Trooper John Crawford with the Georgia State Patrol initiated the traffic stop on Highway 441 around its intersection with Boggs Mountain Road just after 5pm on a 2005 Blue Dodge Caravan due to the driver, identified as Randy Ray Reed, not wearing a seatbelt.
Crawford said upon speaking with Reed, something seemed to be off.
“When I spoke with him and had contact with him, I just know that he was very nervous and not familiar with the area,” said Crawford. “The questions I asked him he just seemed to be very distant and seemed to be hiding something from me at that point.”
Crawford asked permission to search the vehicle, which Reed granted. Crawford says a canine from Habersham County assisted in the search, which yielded approximately five kilos, or eleven pounds, of powdered cocaine stored in a compartment in the floorboard of the vehicle.
Reed was booked into the Rabun County Detention Center on a $3,600 bond for the charges of trafficking cocaine, illegal possession of a controlled substance, and a seatbelt violation.
