More Details in Saturday’s Fatal Boat Accident

New details are available regarding Saturday’s boating accident that left a Mt. Airy man dead.

Chad Chambers with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources gave an initial indication as to how 69 year old Kenneth Mann was killed.

“It appears he received trauma from striking the steering wheel column in front of him, as it was moved out of the way,” said Chambers. “We’re still awaiting a coroner’s report to officially determine cause of death and all that.”

Chambers said Mann was transported to Habersham County Medical Center after the accident, which is where he passed away.

According to Chambers, Mann’s granddaughter was with him and received some lacerations to her back. The driver of the other vessel received a small cut to his elbow, and his wife bruised her knee.

Chambers also gave some insight as to how the accident occurred.

“There appears to be maybe some rules of the road violation,” said Chambers. “Somebody was most likely on the wrong side of the lake, but that will have to be determined by investigations.”

Chambers reminds everyone to operate your boat on the right hand side of the waterway, just like driving a vehicle on the roadway.
