Martha Berry Keener Bingham
Martha Berry Keener Bingham, 83, of Clayton, Georgia., died Saturday October 1, 2016 at the Hope House in Fayette County Georgia. She was the widow of Max Bingham.
Named Martha Berry after Martha Berry who founded the Berry Schools where her father attended (later to become Berry College), she was the first born of Rufus Keener and Flora Kilby Keener. She was born in Rabun County, raised on Persimmon and graduated from Rabun County High School in 1950 and married Max Bingham of Dillard the same year. In 1956, they moved to Atlanta to find work. Max went to work for General Motors Chevrolet Division shortly after their arrival and sometime later she enrolled in and graduated from Massey Business College. She worked in clerical and secretarial work for a number of companies, including Sears-Roebuck, and then in 1965, she went to work for Atlanta Gas Light Company where she attained the position of Executive Assistant to one of the Vice Presidents and worked in that position for a number of years until she retired in 1995. In 2006, she moved back to Persimmon to a house she and Max built back in 1963. She lived there until 2015. After that time, she lived for a year at Traces of Tiger, and then moved to Hope Center Memory Care in Fayetteville, Georgia until her passing.
She is predeceased by her husband, Max H. Bingham and her parents, Rufus and Flora Keener.
She leaves behind daughters, Gail Bingham Allgood (Larry) of Clayton, GA, Debbie Miles of Durango, CO, Wanda Bingham Peterson (Pete) of Rhine, GA and Audrey Bingham Kelley (Paul) of Griffin, Georgia; grandchildren, Amanda McKinley Funk (Tim), Amy Peterson, Megan Selph Wesley, Emily Peterson Williams (Richard), Tori Selph (Jeremy Green), Gabe Selph, Blaine Kelley and ten great grandchildren. Also survived by siblings Mary Keener McCall (Dan) of Chipley, FL, Margaret Keener Williams (Jack) of Clayton, GA, Liz Keener Powell (Tony) of Loganville, GA, Douglas Keener (Carolyn) of Wiley and Lee Keener (Cheryl) of Toccoa, GA.
Funeral services will be Tuesday October 4, 2016 11:00 A.M. at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Westbrook officiating. Burial will follow at the Head of Tennessee Cemetery Dillard, Georgia.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends at the Eastside Chapel Monday October 3, 2016 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
