Many Object to One Way Street

The Clayton City Council held a public hearing yesterday.

The topic was whether or not to make a portion of Hiawassee Street one-way.

The courtroom of the Clayton Municipal Complex was nearly full, with most in opposition of any part of Hiawassee Street being one way.

Thad Bynum first spoke up against the issue at last month’s Clayton City Council meeting, and he said that at last night’s hearing was very one sided.

“Seemed like there was a room full of people, mostly merchants from within the city limits that were also against it,” said Bynum after the meeting. “Matter of fact, I’m don’t think they found anybody that was in favor of making it a one way street.”

At one point during last night’s hearing, councilman John Bradshaw asked those in attendance if anyone was there in support of a one way street, and no one raised their hand.

The council will make a decision at their meeting this coming Tuesday.
