One man dies and another is charged with murder after a stabbing on Friday

Friday afternoon, between four and four thirty, the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office responded to Joe Speed Road, which is off of Warwoman Road, in reference to a possible stabbing.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a man identified as 47 year old Alden Leeland Hass of South Carolina. Rabun County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Gerald Johnson described Hass’ condition.

“The victim had collapsed at a neighbor’s residence, asking for the neighbor to call 9-1-1 because he had been stabbed,” said Johnson. “It appeared that the victim had suffered two stab wounds.”

The victim was taken to Mountain Lakes Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at just before 6:30 p.m.

After a man-hunt, the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with search dogs from Lee Arrendale State Prison in Alto and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, arrested a man identified as 51 year old William Edward Owen of Clayton. He is charged with murder and is being held without bond.

More details on William Owen, as well as details on the search to locate him following his alleged crime, are still to come.
