Man Arrested on Main Street

A man is arrested on Main Street Clayton earlier this week after yelling racial slurs at officers.

On Monday, Officers were dispatched to Main Street in reference to reports of a male subject who was allegedly intoxicated and disruptive.

Officers were initially unable to locate the man, until City Marshall Scott Crane noticed someone who matched the description on Main Street.

Assistant Police Chief Andy Strait explained what happened when Crane approached.

“The subject was very belligerent, and very argumentative, and wanted to fight,” said Strait. “Marshal Crane and the suspect starting wrestling a little bit, and Clayton police officers arrived on the scene shortly after.”

Strait said the subject was then handcuffed and placed in a patrol car.

According to the report on file with the Clayton Police Department, the man, later identified as 38 year old Richard Pierce McCarthy of Rabun Gap, yelled multiple racial slurs at officers throughout the incident.

He is charged with Obstructing or Hindering Law Enforcement, Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol, and Public Drunkeness.
