Police Car Damaged Over the Weekend

A man is arrested over the weekend after police respond to a rowdy group of people at a business in downtown Clayton.

The report on file with the Clayton Police Department says a man working security for the Main Street Bar & Grill had attempted to break up an altercation, at which point a man identified as Stephen Wilson assaulted him, leaving marks.

Andy Strait, Assistant Chief of the Clayton Police Department, said that Wilson showed signs of intoxication.

Strait said that once Wilson was arrested, he became very uncooperative.

The Repaired Patrol Car

“Mr. Wilson started banging against the window of the patrol car,” said Strait. “He caused damage to the inside lining of the vehicle and the door.”

That damage to the door caused it to not seal properly, allowing water into the backseat.

Wilson was taken to the Rabun County Detention Center and was charged with two counts of simple battery, a felony count of interference with government property, and criminal damage to property in the second degree.

The patrol car has been repaired.
