Man Airlifted to Atlanta Hospital After Vehicle Fire in Clayton

From Rabun County Fire Services: “Rabun County Fire Station 1 was dispatched to a report of a possible vehicle fire in the vicinity of 173 Payne Hill Drive in Clayton on 11/30/2021 at approximately 11:45pm.

Fire and EMS units on scene found a pickup truck had left the roadway and traveled a short distance down an embankment, catching fire.

Upon assessing the scene, the male driver was seen to self- extricate out of the driver’s side window and fell to the ground with his clothes still on fire.

The fire was extinguished on him quickly and he was rapidly brought up the bank by Fire and EMS to remove him from the danger of the vehicle on fire. EMS requested for a helicopter to be launched and the patient was transported to the landing zone.

The patient was airlifted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta for treatment of burns and other injuries related to the accident.”
