Drivers Identified in Thursday Accident
A man is airlifted after a three vehicle accident on Highway 441 Thursday evening.
According to the initial report from the Georgia State Patrol, 27 year old Jonathan Lee Edmonds of Mountain City was the driver of the Dodge Ram 1500 that ran a red light at the intersection of Highway 441 and Highway 76 East.
Assistant Chief of the Clayton Police Department Andy Strait explained that Edmonds struck a vehicle driven by 47 year old James Randall Carver of Clayton.
“There was a dark colored Chevrolet Trailblazer that was attempting to cross from Highway 76 East onto Chechero Street on a green light,” said Strait. “The gray pick-up truck, which was traveling south on Georgia Highway 15 [Highway 441] ran the red light, striking the Trailblazer. Upon my arrival, I did see the driver of the dark colored Trailblazer laying on the ground.”
Witnesses said Carver was ejected from the passenger side window of his vehicle during the collision.
The Trailblazer struck a power pole before coming to rest, while the Dodge Ram 1500 struck a Ford Expedition driven by 71 year old James Stanton Martindale of Dillard traveling on Chechero Street towards Highway 76 East.
Carver was airlifted to Mission Hospital in Asheville, while Edmonds was taken by EMS to Mountain Lakes Medical Center. Martindale was not transported.
