Lingering Icy Roads result in several Sunday Traffic Crashes in Habersham County

Emergency personnel in Habersham County responded to several wrecks across the county Sunday. Units from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two-vehicle wreck at 1:19pm on Jan. 12 on Orchard Road at Turnerville Circle. In that collision, a vehicle lost control due to a patch of ice and collided with another vehicle, resulting in airbag deployment. Habersham County Emergency Services Med 9 transported one person to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Habersham. Habersham County Road Department personnel responded to treat the road again. That wreck was cleared at 2:36pm. Units were dispatched at 4:53pm Sunday to a single-vehicle rollover wreck on West Airport Road at Stapleton Road just outside Cornelia. In that incident, a vehicle flipped onto its side in a ditch, but no one was injured. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating. Habersham County Road Department personnel responded to treat the road again. Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and Habersham County Emergency Services personnel responded to a 10:55pm crash Sunday at Apple Pie Ridge Circle and Gainesville Highway. In that incident, one vehicle traveled off the embankment and struck the guy wire of a utility pole. Habersham County Emergency Services Med 12 obtained two patient refusals from those in the car. The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Georgia Power Co. dispatched personnel to check damage to the guide wire. The road reopened at 11:55pm. Also on Sunday, deputies responded to a handful of other incidents involving vehicles sliding out of the road, including a couple on Chase Road and one on Camp Creek Road just outside Cornelia, but no injuries were reported.
