Lester William Speed

Lester William Speed, age 86, of Dillard, Georgia passed away on February 14, 2018. He was the son of the late Julius Fred Speed and Georgia Iva Chastain Speed and was born on January 12, 1932.

Lester was a Christian and a member of the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church, and served as a deacon there for many years. In his professional life, he worked at Burlington Industries for 36 years as an inspector and he served admirably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Lester loved to farm, and loved spending time with his family. He was a loving father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.

Lester was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Burrell Speed; his parents, Julius and Georgia Iva Speed; his brother, Fred Speed.

His survivors include his sons, Davis Speed (Teresa), of Otto, North Carolina, Gary Speed (Renee), of Dillard, Georgia; his daughter, Glenda Enloe (Bill), of Dillard, Georgia; his brother, Harley Speed, of San Marcos, Texas; his grandchildren, Katelyn Pickens, Jacob Speed, Christy McCrackin, Adam Enloe, Jason Speed, Joshua Speed, Jonathon Speed; eight great-grandchildren also survive him.

The family will receive friends on Saturday February 17, 2018 at the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church in Dillard, Georgia from 1:00 pm until 3:00pm.

A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm on Saturday February 17, 2018 at the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church with Rev. Gabe Southards officiating.

Interment will follow in the Head of Tennessee Church Cemetery.
