League of Women Voters hosting SPLOST meeting

On March 19th, Rabun County citizens will be asked to vote on a new SPLOST agreement that will generate 20 million dollars in revenue for the county. The SPLOST agreement will be in effect for the next six years.

According to government officials, Rabun County has been under a SPLOST agreement since 1988. The 1% sales tax will not be an additional tax, Rabun County residents and visitors are already paying this tax.

The League of Women Voters of Rabun County will host a town hall meeting on the upcoming SPLOST Thursday at the Rabun County Courthouse from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Multiple elected officials such as Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols, Rabun County Commissioner Scott Crane, Mayor of Tallulah Falls Teri Dobbs, Clayton City Council Carl Butler among others, are panelists scheduled to attend the meeting.

Rabun County and the local municipalities have a wide range of projects on the agenda for the up-coming SPLOST funds. These projects include:

Road & Bridges Improvements
Courthouse Upgrades
City of Clayton City Hall Maintenance and Repair, City roads and streets, water and sewer system improvements, and public safety
Dillard City Complex Renovation, City roads and streets, and water and sewer system improvements
Sky Valley Buildings and Equipment, and City roads and streets
Mountain City,  City Complex Renovations, City roads and streets, and public safety
Tiger Parks and Recreation, and City roads and streets
Tallulah Falls Public Buildings Renovations and Improvements, City roads and streets, and water and sewer system improvements
