James glad that Voters approved SPLOST
By a vote of 63% to 37% Rabun County voters approved the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax or SPLOST, which is a special 1 percent sales and use tax, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Rabun County Board of Commissioners Chairman Greg James was glad to see it approved because it will fund several needed projects in the county over the next 6 years. “Well, very pleased that the constituency, the people of Rabun County, see the benefit in SPLOST. This is the eighth in a row and it gives us the opportunity to gather tax revenue and not raise property taxes. The good thing is over two-thirds of the money collected under SPLOST, that 1 percent sales tax, comes from people other than Rabun County. Again, the greatest by-product of that is it helps us to keep property taxes low. The last I saw we were the seventh lowest in the state and I think the people see the benefit in that and they have spoken. I’m glad that they approved it once again.” The SPLOST will help fund improvements to roads and bridges, fire stations, water and sewer, public safety, and recreation throughout Rabun County.
