Isolated flooding possible and damaging winds likely tonight into Wednesday

According to the National Weather Service and local EMA, Rabun County and surrounding areas are under a hazardous weather outlook until mid-Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning as well as potential Flood Watch as a result of torrential rainfall.

According to EMA officials, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected well into Wednesday morning and could potentially lead to isolated flooding.

Additionally, wind gusts up to 45 mph and rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour will be possible in Clayton and surrounding areas.

The sustained heavy rain may flood areas with poor drainage so local EMA officials advise avoiding ditches and underpasses, along with any flooded roads. If you encounter a road that has standing water, turn around, don’t drown.
