Intoxicated Man Passes Out in Drive-Thru

A man believed to be intoxicated holds up the line last week at a local fast food restaurant.

Police responded to Wendy’s just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday in reference to a man passed out in the drive-thru.

The report on file with the Clayton Police Department says officers saw a man identified as Darryl Clark Shankles of Flowery Branch, Georgia passed out in the drive thru line in his 2012 Toyota Camry with his foot on the brake and the vehicle in drive.

Assistant Police Chief Andy Strait said officers observed an open container and could also smell the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle.

Shankles consented to a field sobriety test. Strait explained the results.

“He showed several clues for being intoxicated, and he admitted that he had been drinking,” said Strait.  “He had just driven from Johnson City, Tennessee.”

Shankles was taken to the Rabun County Detention Center, charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Possession of an Open Container.
