How Does the Government Shutdown Affect You

With the Government shut down starting today some offices and entities in the area have been affected and more may follow if the shutdown continues. All National Parks and Forests are closed, however privately owned campgrounds  are still open. Any historic sites ran by the federal government are also closed. The Social Security office in Toccoa will be limited in their actions and close at 3pm. If the shutdown continues community action agencies like 9th District Opportunity may also be affected says Brandi Potts…

“We usually provide emergency rent and utilities assistance, that’s provided by our CSBG program and we will not provide any of those services with the government shutdown because of lack of funding. Well and obviously we’ll just have to close our doors completely because we are to some degree federally funded.”

Rabun County Head Start may have to close Friday if shutdown continues.
