An 82-year old Highlands woman was killed as a result of injuries from a single-car accident on Saturday.

According to the Bryson City Post of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred around 2:40 p.m. Saturday on Buck Creek Road about 7 miles west of Highlands.

Troopers say the victim, identified as Hattie Holloway, was driving a 2008 Kia SUV east on Buck Creek Road when she veered off the left side of the road, struck an embankment, and overturned the vehicle.

Her passenger, 88-year old Frank Holloway, survived the accident, but was critically injured. Both were attended to on scene by Macon EMS before being taken to Angel Medical Center.

Both individuals were buckled up, according to the Highway Patrol. Troopers indicate the cause of the wreck was lack of attention.
