Highlands-Cashiers plane crash results in one dead

According to our sister station, 104.1 WNCC in Franklin, North Carolina, the search for a single-engine plane that went missing on Thursday has come to an end and the pilot has been pronounced dead.

According to Jackson County Emergency Director Todd Dillard, Gary Huddleston, Aiken, South Carolina, was traveling from Knoxville, Tennesee to Aiken, South Carolina when his plane went down in Jackson County, North Carolina. His time of death was estimated to occur at the time of the crash and he was the only person on board.

The information comes after a highly publicized search where multi-state authorities became involved in the search in an effort to find Huddleston.

The cause of the plane crash is still under investigation according to Jackson-Macon County authorities.
