Habersham EMC Celebrates 75 Years

Habersham EMC holds its 75th annual meeting recently.

Approximately 4,000 people attended the meeting and enjoyed several activities as well as music from the Chuck Wagon Gang.

Attendees were transported through time as they learned what motivated U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt to create the Rural Electrification Administration  (REA), how HEMC began as a grassroots effort, and experienced the excitement created when the first portion of electrical lines were energized in the area.

Darren Kendall from U.S. Congressman Doug Collins’ office, Representative Dan Gasaway on behalf of Governor Deal, Senator John Wilkinson and Representative Terry Rogers presented the cooperative with proclamations in celebration of the 75 Anniversary.

Ray Meaders, Dan Thurmond and David Wall were elected to serve three year terms.
