Grant to Help Fix Water Leaks

Steps have been taken in fixing leaks in the local water system. The GEFA has announced that the area has been given a Grant to detect leaks with in the water system. The Grant is in labor and will cover about 30 miles of pipe which is about 30% of the system. This is a leap forward that Public works director Moody Barrick says may have a positive impact on the water consumers…

“It lowers the cost of water, cause half the water you treating that cost 2 or 3 dollars a thousand gallons, when half of that’s going in the ground you’re getting nothing back. Obviously that’s just lost money.”

Moody also stated that while this may help its probably not a permanent solution…

“I think the long term solution is going to be replace the old pipe, but it would definitely in the short term(help), occasionally we have, you get lucky and find a big leak that makes a significant difference.”

No word yet on when the project will begin or be completed.
