A bicycle race took place in Northeast Georgia over the weekend, bringing riders to the area from all over North America.

The Gran Fondo National Championship Series began and ended in downtown Clayton on Sunday, and featured over 130 riders from across Georgia as well as all over the United States, and even as far as Canada.

President of the GFNCS Reuben Kline said he thought the event was a huge success.

“The event went great, the city of Clayton, the local community, as well as the surrounding counties were all very helpful in organizing the event, and aided in a great execution,” said Kline. “Everything went very smoothly.”

Kline said he looks forward to the event expanding in years to come.

“I really expect that with vendors and other people coming into the area to support the event, we’ll have well over 750 people coming to the area the second year,” said Kline. “Long term, we hope for this to be an event that brings in well over 1,000 people.”

Out of the 133 participants, over 30% were from outside of the state of Georgia.
