Governor Signs Legislation Into Law

The Governor of Georgia has signed a piece of local legislation for Rabun County into law.

Rabun County Commissioner Chairman Butch Darnell announced Wednesday that Governor Deal signed the legislation providing for the creation of the new Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority into law earlier this week.

Darnell says he feels this is significant in showing that this is the right direction for the county.

“I think it speaks volumes his actually signing this legislation into law, because he could have simply just let it time lapse and it would have went into effect anyways,” said Darnell. “I think he is sending a clear message that he is very involved with it, he knows what’s going on with it, and he supports consolidation in Rabun County.”

Darnell says that each city will now need to appoint a representative to serve on the new county wide water and sewer authority.
