Georgia Primary 2018: Voters decide on governor, Congress, state races

ATLANTA — Today is election day for the 2018 Georgia General Primary.

Voters will select a party candidate for governor and lieutenant governor as well as some state congressional seats. Not all primary candidates have contested races and where there are no contested races, and no opposition in the general election, those candidates will be declared the winner.

For Governor, on the Democratic ticket, voters will choose between Stacey Abrams and Stacey Evans.

The Republican ballot is chocked full of candidates, each hoping to assume the state’s highest office. The ballot includes Brian Kemp, Casey Cagle, Hunter Hill, Michael Williams, Clay Tippins, Eddie Hayes and Marc Alan Urbach.

Governor Nathan Deal is not on the ballot because he is in his second term and the State of Georgia has a two-term limit on the governor’s office.

For Lieutenant Governor, the Democratic challengers are Sarah Riggs Amico and Triana Arnold James.

The Republican candidates for Lieutenant Governor are David Shafer, Geoff Duncan and Rick Jeffares.

The Democratic candidates for Secretary of State include Dee Dawkins-Haigler, John Barrow and Rakeim “RJ” Hadley.

The Republican ticket will include Brad Raffensperger, Buzz Brockway, David Belle Isle and Josh McKoon.

For the U.S. State Representative, District 8 seat, two Democrats are running: Matt Gurtler and Mickey Cummings.

There are a number of other lower state seats on the ballot, and that information is available on the Georgia Secretary of State website, located at sos.ga.gov.
