Georgia Mountains Unemployment Rate climbs to 3.7%

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler reports that initial claims for unemployment drastically increased in March.  Due to the effects of COVID-19, all regions throughout the state saw a dramatic spike in initial claims along with the unemployment rate.  In the Georgia Mountains Region, the unemployment rate increased by 0.7 percentage points in March, reaching 3.7 percent.  In February, the rate was 3.0 percent. A year ago, the unemployment rate was 3.1 percent.  The Georgia Mountains Region includes Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties.
