Georgia General Assembly amends Tallulah Falls council laws

Recently enacted by the Georgia General Assembly was the modification of several laws regarding the Tallulah Falls council.

A majority of the changes were in regards to quorum, voting, and special meetings of the town council.

In Section 2.11. of house bill House Bill 1034 the amendment states that members of the town council have to serve for terms of four years until their respective successors are elected and qualified. Under that grounds, no person can be eligible to serve as mayor or town council member unless they have been a resident of the town six months immediately prior to the date of the election of the mayor or members of the town council.

The office of mayor or council member will become vacant upon the incumbent’s death, resignation, removal, or otherwise.

In the event that a vacancy occurs in the office of mayor or council member and less than half of the unexpired term of such office remains outstanding, then the remaining members of the council are able to appoint an interim member to serve until a successor is elected and qualified at the next general municipal election.
