GA Regional Commissions see Rise in May Unemployment Rates

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler announces that all Regional Commissions recorded a rise in unemployment rates in May.  Locally, the labor force was up and employment was up in the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission of Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties.  In the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission, the May preliminary unemployment rate was up four-tenths to 2.2% over the month, the rate was 2.9% one year ago.  The labor force was up 2,259 over the month and up 9,347 over the year, to 369,665.  The number of employed was up 789 over the month and up 11,484 over the year, to 361,507.  Initial claims were down 57 or -11% over the month, and down 4,126 or -90% over the year, to 480.  Also, there were 4,883 jobs posted on Employ Georgia in the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission.
