Free Named Chief at NGTC

The position of Campus Police Chief at North Georgia Technical College has been filled by a Rabun County man.

North Georgia Tech announced that Tony Free of Rabun County is their newest Campus Police Chief, a position which has been filled by an interim chief since June.

Free said he is excited to be working at NGTC, and that the role encompasses the entire spectrum of public safety.

“I found out that the college environment definitely has a broader span of control, with more emphasis on overall public safety,” said Free. “Under the police department, we take care of fire and tornado drills and scenarios and are responsible for the whole safety of all the campuses.”

Free formerly worked with both the Clayton Police Department and the Sky Valley Police Department, as well as the Department of Corrections.

The last full time Campus Police Chief at North Georgia Tech was Shawn Wilson, who resigned to run for Sheriff in Rabun County.
