Franklin House Fire Kills One

One person was killed in a Monday afternoon house fire at 101 Calico Drive in Franklin, North Carolina.

At 4:12 p.m. West Macon Fire and Rescue, along with Franklin and Clarks Chapel, was dispatched to the fire to find heavy smoke coming from the two story brick home.

West Macon Fire Chief Josh Randall says two occupants were already outside the residence as crews arrive. The first engine was on scene within five minutes of the alarm and a crew of firemen entered the structure and began searching for the occupant, and suppressing the fire. Interior search crews found the victim to be deceased on the second story of the home, within approx 10 minutes of arrival.

The two occupants that escaped were treated by Macon County EMS with one occupant being transported to Angel Medical Center for treatment of minor burns. The home is a total loss with the second floor completely destroyed.

Cullasaja and Otto Fire Departments also provided assistance. Crews cleared the scene at 7:36 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and SBI.

The victim’s identity has not been released yet.
