Forecasters warn of possible hail and severe thunderstorms tonight, tomorrow

According to the Storm Prediction Center, North Georgia and the Western Carolinas are under a severe weather watch until mid-Tuesday morning.

Spring has already shown signs of being ‘sprung’ as Georgia is beginning to feel it’s warming effects as well as an influx of scattered rain-storms.

However, according to our local Sky 96.3 Meteorologist John Weatherbee, the National Weather Service in Greenville has issued a more severe weather statement that residents in Rabun County should be aware of.

“A storm system over the lower Mississippi Valley will move east today spreading showers and thunderstorms across north and central Georgia. A few storms could be severe across north Georgia, mainly between 2 p.m. and midnight tonight,” Weatherbee said. “The main hazards from the severe storms will be damaging winds and large hail, however, an isolated tornado is not out of the question.”

Tuesday morning will continue to have some hazards of damaging winds and large hail until mid-morning when the storm is expected to clear.

EMA/SAR Director Micheal Mazarky says to “keep an eye on the changing weather conditions today and have your home and family emergency plan ready. Also, make sure to have your emergency supplies ready and up to date in the event of severe weather.”
