Flu Season is Open

The Flu season may be upon us early this fall. Experts think this years flu season could start as early as October and be as bad or worse than last year’s overwhelming flu season. The CDC has helped this year with a stronger vaccine called quadrivalent says D.O. Vicki Clements of North Shore Healthcare…

“In the past we’ve had two strains of A and one strain of B, starting this year its two strains of A and two strains of B, so that will provide extra protection hopefully against the B vaccine.”

Clements also says some are at more of a high risk than others…

“Elderly, young, and pregnant women are at most risk of death from flu, so we want to hit those populations, Most pregnant women if they don’t have insurance , can qualify for medicaid so theirs should be covered.”

MedLink Georgia, Inc. has partnered with several WalMarts to conduct Flu Clinics including the Commerce and Hartwell Walmarts. The clinics run through October 4. You can also go to Medlink Rabun at 896 Hwy 441 south in Clayton and Walgreens. Flu Shots are $25 and High Dose Flu Shots for ages 65 and older are $29.
