Firewise Communities USA Gaining Traction

A program to do as much as possible to protect homes across the country in the event of a wildfire is trying to gain traction in Northeast Georgia.

Chief Ranger Senior Shannon Dean with the Georgia Forestry Commission says that the Firewise Communities USA Program can be beneficial in making every effort to protect homes from a potentially damaging wildfire should one occur.

“This program seeks to encourage and acknowledge community action that minimizes home loss to wildfire by providing a simple template  for a community organization as well as standards and direction for local wildfire urban interface fire protection programs.”

Small towns and homeowners associations are the most appropriate venue for Firewise Communities USA, as individual homeowner commitment helps to make the program work.
