Fatal Crash on Sunday Night, Alcohol Believed to Be Factor

A fatal crash took the life of a Clayton man this weekend.

Twenty nine year old John Ray Stolt of Clayton died when he lost control of and flipped his 1999 Ford Windstar while traveling west on Highway 76 late Sunday night, according to Georgia State Patrol Trooper 1st Class Casey Coffee.

Trooper Coffee says the car came to rest on its top after Stolt overcorrected twice, first after traveling onto the North shoulder and again after traveling onto the South shoulder of the road.

“The drive of the vehicle was trapped and was extricated.”

Coffee says alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor.

“A blood test is pending,” said Coffee. “We’re waiting on the results from the GBI Crime Lab.”

Statewide, 17 deaths were investigated by the Georgia State Patrol over the Memorial Day Holiday Travel Period.
