Failure to maintain Lane leads to DUI Arrests

Two traffic stops for failure to maintain lane led to DUI arrests in Rabun County.  The first incident occurred on Sept. 22, 2019, at 3:42pm on Warwoman Road in Clayton.  A deputy with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office was responding to a harassment call on Highway 28 when he spotted the suspected vehicle, a 2010 Ford Van, traveling down Warwoman Road at a high rate of speed and failing to maintain lane.  A traffic stop was initiated and while speaking with the driver, 43-year-old John Robert Parker of Otto, North Carolina, the deputy smelled alcohol on his breath. Field sobriety tests were conducted and Parker failed, so he was arrested for driving under the influence and failure to maintain lane.  The second incident happened on Sept. 23, 2019, at 5:50pm on Georgia 15 at its intersection with Old Pic n’ Parlor in Lakemont. A deputy stopped a 2008 Toyota RAV 4 for failure to maintain lane. Upon interviewing the driver, 36-year-old Matthew Robertson of Weaverville, North Carolina, the deputy smelled alcohol and initiated field sobriety tests.  After failing those, Robertson was arrested for driving under the influence, failure to maintain lane, possession of an open alcohol container, and driving without a valid license.
